Den Eviga Eldens Magi - Project Completion!

Today I turned in the final batch of images for my extensive 'Magi' project with publisher Lilla Piratförlaget and author Patrik Bergström.

I made the image below to commemorate the sheer amount of work I created for this fantasy children's series. Like the image says: 5 covers, 45 interiors (!!!), 5 chapter headings and 1 map. I feel like I've just crossed the finish line to a long, yet satisfying art marathon.

Phantism Cover

I want to share a book cover I was working on before and during the Germany Move for a holiday book launch. This is cover #3 for author K.E. Stapylton's Prism series, it follows The Terror of Prism Fading (Prism book #1) and The Deeper Darkness (Prism book #2). It is set in a firey subterranean world and is the "yellow" book for the series.

Special thanks to my husband Chris for patiently modeling for photo reference and to Kareyn for graciously rolling with the disruption of my moving schedule:

Magic of the Eternal Fire - Final Cover

I just finished up the cover of Magic of the Eternal Fire for Patrik Bergström. I really like the way this one came out. The 'living fire' magic was a special challenge. Next up: working on a map and chapter heading(s) for Patrik.

In personal-art news: I've just revived and breathed a bit of new enthusiasm and life into my long time 'River of Dreams' project. I am hard at work expanding this story and fleshing out the world in which it takes place!

Also: this week I'm the featured illustrator on the wonderful VSS blog! You can read an interview with me HERE.

Magic of the Eternal Fire - Color!

I got to do one of my favorite illustration bits today: work out a color-scheme. =)

Much care was taken on the greens chosen for the magic, its intensity, warm-cool balance, and making the wizard recede. I love how this has come together over the past few hours!

Many many hours of work to go until finished, of course, but very much looking forward to painting this one.

Magic of the Eternal Fire - Sketches

I just started a new cover for Patrik Bergström in Sweden. This is for a children fantasy chapter book/series that translates roughly to: The Magic of the Eternal Fire: Tim and Corinthia.

I'm quite excited about how this is turning out so-far and can't wait to start playing with color and light!

Tide of Avarice - Book! =)

So I just received a package in the mail from Mr. John Dahlgren in Switzerland with a beautiful printed copy of The Tides of Avarice!

In case you missed my previous post on the remaking of this cover, etc, you may follow this link: Here. The final printed book looks amazing. I especially love the embossing detail on the title text!

In other news: I made SPECTRUM 18 this year!!! Those of you who follow the industry know that this is a REALLY BIG deal. I am super-excited and very honored to have one of my works included alongside those of my illustration friends and idols =)

Tides of Avarice - Cover Remake

A few months back I worked with author John Dahlgren on two book covers. The first was a remake of Tides of Avarice, a piece I had originally created for him in 2007... The book had been since picked up by a Singaporean publisher and he needed the art updated and made into a wrap-cover format. It was quite a fun challenge to remake one of my own pieces in this manner! =)

Deeper Darkness - Book Cover - Final

Actually finished this up a few days ago (though still awaiting confirmation of exact book dimensions before I send the author final files).

Much has happened since the grayscale painting. I've gone through many many different color options, tweaked a number of things, and actually sat down and painted each element in a finished fashion.

Quite please with how this one turned out! =)

The Deeper Darkness - Book Cover - Value Study

A ton of work yesterday on the grayscale "value study" for the Deeper Darkness cover.... so much so, that I was too zonkered to post it by the end of the work day! But here it is.

Today I play with color =)

The Deeper Darkness - Book Cover

I'm currently working on the second wrap format book cover for K.E. Stapylton's Prism series (YA fantasy). It's great to be working with Kareyn again and I'm quite excited about how this one is coming along!

The Woodcutter (Sketch & Color Rough)

So, I've finally got another project-in-progress to share (ie one that is not NDA...like the big ones I'm working on). The client is an author by the name of Lorn Wolf and he needs a cover for his up and coming fantasy book: The Woodcutter.

In this scene the main character (and family) confront the Giant who has supposedly kidnapped his daughter (the girl in the center). At this point in time, the daughter has rushed out to "save" the misunderstood Giant but is rapidly loosing control of her magic.

Math Wizard

Just wrapped up an e-book cover today for Vincent Tan in Singapore (his blog here: honeybeech.com). This is an illustration of a D&D "Math Wizard" for a specialized rule book. Accordingly, our hero fights with a divider and casts mathematical spells at his foes... I loved the clever concept and had a blast coming up with the illustration to match.

In the midst of said illustration, I underwent a rather big workstation change: I upgraded from a 24" Gateway LCD to a 30" LCD. And not just any 30incher, a NEC MultiSync LCD3090WQXi which I am really enjoying. I also got a Spyder3 to help with calibration =) (Photos of my updated workstation to follow). As for my 24".... let's just say a certain boyfriend is now enjoying a 3 monitor spread for his internet spaceships.

Oh, and special thanks to my friend Joe for modeling in a wizard's robe.

A Hint of Magic - Cover WIP 1-3

Just started on a new book cover for Liz at Zumaya. This is the cover for the up and coming book A Hint of Magic by Linda Andrews.

Still a ways to go... but 'tis coming along. Color sketch is the current stage.

Mother Goose in Prose II

Mother Goose and Steph Portrait

First up. I just started another lovely book cover for Kalliope Audiobooks. This is for the audiobook version of The Mother Goose in Prose by L. Frank Baum. The story I chose for the cover is "Little Bo-Peep."

Also onto the next character portrait for Tom Tancin's Time Warriors series:
