Illustration Friday: Suspend

I noticed that Illustration Friday had a spiffy new look and I've been itching to get back into participating.

This week's topic was "Suspend." I was inspired to explore a series of layout concepts rather than work on a single piece. I spent about 15-30 min per sketch. Baskets/ships suspended in the air by party balloons, over fields of gold, watched by field mice. As you can see, I fell in love with a certain color-palette.

It might be fun to pick one of these and make it into a final painting. Which is your favorite?

This is really lovely - the soft colors set the mood beautifully.

This is beautiful. I love the lighting event. It gives the impression of a sunset without showing it. It also has a very quiet peaceful feel to it which I enjoy.

Beautiful color sketches. I think my favorite is the last scene... it has a really serene quality to it.

Oh I do love the colors as well! My fav is the third from the top. There's a feeling of time passing-with balloons going away and a new one entering from the right. love it!

Awesome. Love the tones and the raw treatment . I love the third one from the top as well. It shows scale and has a very nice feel.

Would love to see the painting in future if you make such a one.

I love seeing this - how awesome to see a work in progress!

I like the first one as the emphasis is on the ship in the background and makes it clear the size of the mouse in comparison. Nice contrast and great technique!

I also like #2, although it might be a little too "busy" - everything tends to blend in with the landscape and it's a little difficult to figure out the shapes and objects both from a distance and up close.

I don't care for #3, there's not quite enough detail I think. It's also a little too pedestrian - almost like the mouse is more an after thought. Raises the question of "so what? A mouse is looking up". Doesn't quite give the mouse's point of view any power.

#4 is very cute from the mouse's perspective in the ship which is awesome. Kinda makes the viewer feel like they're on the edge right there withe the mouse, seeing all this wonder and beauty below.

Didn't really care for the last two as much, for a lot of the same reasons as #3.

If I were to pick a favorite it would be 1 or 4. I really couldn't choose between them.

Awesome job and hope the comments help. Love your style!
